Tapestry Together Cairn

The Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands is for everyone. From the complete beginner to the skilled stitcher, everyone was welcome. Tapestry Together Ullapool stitched into their cairn icons of the area and learned more about themselves and their skills in the process.

This is their story.

Ullapool is a village in the north-west of Scotland synonymous with the fishing industry and beautiful scenery. The landscape and native wildlife are memorialised in our cairn.

The hills and glens are full of the majestic deer, depicted in a journey stone on the right side of the cairn. With horses in the fields and gulls and birds swooping in the skies above, you are never far from curious creatures.

Our cairn also represents the flora and fauna of our area. The wildflowers which pepper fields and roadsides and the seaweed and lichen which rest on the seashore. Ullapool has many amazing walks and trails which take you out into nature. Being in the great outdoors and appreciating what is on your doorstep is a big part of living here.

Some of the stones that make up our cairn represent the coast - sea shells, muscles clinging to rocks, fish and fossils. The stones contain abstract shapes which represent the landscape where we live and the ancient stories which are contained within it.
