A Prophecy

By Lynn Kropp

In 1972, my friend Jane and I were hitchhiking in then Highlands from Edinburgh (where we were student nurses).

A lovely, but exasperated lorry driver had just put us out of his cab at Drumnadrochit (Scottish Gaelic: Druim na Drochaid). I had been sick three times already..(Well, it was a fish lorry!) We were lying on the Green in the soft Spring sun, and I turned to Jane and said...'I am going to live here someday!'

Many years passed, and I lived in other countries, including the USA. But I never forgot the beauty, sounds, smells and the call to my Spirit to return.

In 1986, with three children, we returned to live in Milton (a wee bit away from Drumnadrochit!) We raised our family in this warm vital community, where they attended the very small Primary School and the old Glenurquhart High School. Our home was a base to explore all of the Highlands (and Islands!) And we did, at every opportunity and holiday. Our children are now away-living in other parts of Scotland. But they still consider this 'HOME!'

I marvel every morning that I am still here! Happy and content that I listened to my young self and returned to abide in the Highlands!
