Wild Swimming

The Spirit of the Highlands shines through the landscapes and is present each day, ever changing through the seasons and each day as the light shifts and the weather changes

I have always loved the water and this has connected me throughout my life. From swimming competitively as a child to surfing as a teenager to discovering the clarity of the underwater world on the northwest coast of Scotland, aged 20. This love has developed and strengthened and my photographic practice is all based around water.

My relationship to water is what binds me and help me connect to a place, as well as stay healthy. I began wild swimming about 12 years ago in Loch Ness and realised it helped with my migraines and stress levels. I continue to swim in the lochs to help with my health but also my overall wellbeing. I see it as a form of meditation. You are completely in that moment surrounded by nature that eases the body and senses, experiencing changing light conditions, beautiful landscapes in the landscape and it is here that the inspiration for my art flows.

As a landscape photographer, I always notice the beauty, quiet and remote landscapes of the Highlands. The Spirit of the Highlands shines through the landscapes and is present each day, ever changing through the seasons and each day as the light shifts and the weather changes. The sheer beauty of the area is something that I am grateful for each day and is what connects me to my home, inspires me to create and provides with a beautiful base for a healthy life.
