Ewe for You

My journey stone is called a “A view of Ewe for You” - I first came to Wester Ross (Cove to be precise) in 1992. At the time on a windy wet day I said to a friend, "I could live here”. Over the preceding years I have come with my young (now grown up) family on holidays. The landscape has always pulled me to it – I refer to it as my “spiritual home”. In 2009 we bought land – in 2012 our house was completed and after a long journey in 2022 we finally moved here permanently. My journey stone is the view from my upstairs bedroom window of Loch Ewe that I’m privileged to see everyday (although not always the mountains) no matter what the weather.
Many thanks to Melanie McAdam for sharing with us the story behind her journey stone, created as part of the Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands.
WHAT IS A JOURNEY STONE?
Prior to the beginning of the stitching of each tapestry panel, each stitcher of the Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands was tasked with telling their interpretation of the 'Spirit of the Highlands and Islands' within a blank outline of a stone. The possibilities were truly endless - is it represented in the land? The people? A historical site? A favourite memory?
In any case, each journey stone represents the connection between each individual stitcher, their story, and their own sense, or 'spirit', of place. Discover more of the stories behind the journey stones of the Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands here.
