Through the Glens
For me the Spirit of the Highlands exists in the people of the Highlands; in their culture, the communities they create and their connection to the land
My aim was to write a set of two pieces inspired by the predictions of the Brahan Seer surrounding the coming of the railways. One of these predictions references a route from Inverness to Dingwall and then Dingwall to Skye, which led to the idea of two different pieces to join in a set. In particular, I was taken by the following quote, which ended up lending itself to the title of the set:
“Great black, bridle-less horses, belching fire and steam, drawing lines of carriages through the glens”.
