Loch Ness
One of the Highlands most iconic areas, the stunning natural landscapes of Loch Ness are the perfect escape for nature lovers. At 23 miles long and containing more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined, the rippling waters of Loch Ness provide perfect hiding spots for all kinds of wildlife and of course the water’s most infamous inhabitant, Nessie. With must-see sites such as Urquhart Castle, Glen Affric, and Fort Augustus, as well as hiking trails, local food stops and outdoor experiences, Loch Ness has something to enjoy for everyone.
For those in search of calm and respite, the south side of Loch Ness is a perfect escape. The South Loch Ness Hiking Trail is a firm favourite to explore this quiet paradise. The trail covers an epic 36-mile route starting on the outskirts of Inverness at Torbreck and officially ending at the village of Fort Augustus. Hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders embarking on their trek can expect magnificent views of Loch Ness and a delightful array of local wildlife and colourful flora and fauna.
